Volunteer

We have a full team at the moment, but stay tuned for the possibility of casual editing work and for next year’s positions!

As a student-run club at UVic, all of our staff positions are volunteer-based. This also means
that we are looking for you, the students, to volunteer with us each year!

Every year, as volunteers graduate or pursue their own creativity, staff positions become
available! So check with us in September at this page or on facebook to see what you can do for us!
There may also be short-term opportunities throughout the year (event
photography, etc.) so stay tuned for that as well.

To apply for a position, send an email to warrenexec@gmail.com with a paragraph or two
about yourself, and 1-3 samples of your own work. We’re not looking for resumes or CVs,
though relevant experience is always a plus! We aren’t looking for cookie-cutter, dry applications,
so leave out the “to-whom-it-may-concern” and let your personality shine through!

We love experience in journal layout (we use Adobe inDesign), web design (we use
WordPress), and editing, though no experience is necessary.

The core staff of the Warren is generally comprised of:

Editor in Chief
Vice Editor in Chief

Three Executive Editors

Genre Editors:
in poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction,
criticism, visual art, other (may include
drama, philosophy, gender studies, and
others)

Director of Submissions

Social Media Liaison/Advertising

Events Photographer

also: web designers, general volunteers,
copy editors, events volunteers

All positions are relatively part-time (no set hours each week), with more time commitment
in the second term (when we publish) and during the planning of events. All members of staff are expected to help out with events and fundraising (bake sales, anyone?!) when needed, and to check their emails and
other means of communication regularly.

….and of course we are always looking for submissions! Just remember, staff members are not allowed to
submit to the journal themselves, so unfortunately there is a bit of an ultimatum involved between
publishing and being published! However, we do host an annual Editors’ Showcase to allow
our wonderful staff to share their own creative and academic work.

Please direct all queries and applications (but not submissions) to warrenexec@gmail.com.
